OUR HISTORY
The interesting name ‘Park Nook Farm’ originates with the first selectors in the district who came from Quarndon in Derbyshire, U.K.
The Smith family selected 80 acres of scrubby bush, in an area home at the time to the local Woiwarung people.
They proceeded to clear the land and build their home. Always with an eye for business, they opened a small bakery and general store to service the needs of the Maroondah Aqueduct builders known as ‘navvies’ who were camped across the nearby hillsides constructing the vital water supply channels to serve ever growing Melbourne.
THE BAKERY
Today the bakery is still standing, restoration is underway and the original oven has been restored. There are plans to bring the hospitality of the original family, back to the bakery buildings.
